SALMON FARM PROTEST GROUP PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE USE (Friday 4th April 2003) POLITICAL PARTIES CALLED TO ACCOUNT The Salmon Farm Protest Group today called upon Scottish political parties, in advance of the May elections, to clearly state their polices on salmon farming in the West Highlands and Islands of Scotland. Since the expansion of salmon farming in the late 1980's many distinct populations of wild salmon and sea-trout have been driven to the point of extinction by disease and pollution from fish farms. In a letter to Jack McConnell (Labour), David McLetchie (Conservative), Jim Wallace (Liberal Democrats), Robin Harper (Greens), Tommy Sheridan (Scottish Socialist Party), and John Swinney (Scottish Nationalist Party) the Salmon Farm Protest Group asks two critical questions, should their party obtain power in May:
